All I have to do is manipulate my motif ... right? WRONG!
There is much more to Core Composition then just manipulating your motif! If all you are doing is manipulating your motif and creating new movement with no other substance or direction, you are not going to get the marks that you feel like you deserve.
Core Composition and composition in general is one of my favourite things to both engage in myself as a creator and teach. It provides both myself and my students the opportunity to explore their own style, create movement that would normally be seen as 'weird' and provide it will the opportunity to mean something so much more and have fun creating with little guidelines to hold you back.
So, what more is there in composition? Why isn't manipulating the motif enough?
Well, most teachers focus on the manipulation of the motif and lose sight of the big picture. There are many other elements that need to be considered, not just manipulating a movement. Remember, the motif is created to be your starting point.
Of course, I can't give all of my teaching secrets away! If you would like to learn how to get the most out of your Core Composition, book a video conference call to have a one-on-one tutoring session with our tutor. You can also film your composition and send it in for personalised and in-depth feedback, where we will then jump online and chat through your composition with you.
If you need more information in relation to the different components of choreography and how you can use them, subscribe to our core composition plan for online resources.
